Grand Canyon

Every time I see the Grand Canyon I am overwhelmed by it's magnificent beauty. No photograph, no painting can ever tell how immense, how deep, how majestic it is. I was at the South Rim a few months ago. From that area it is almost a mile down to the Colorado River. The Grand Canyon can be 10-18 miles across. I tried to convey in this piece the sense of vast space to the far edges and the vertigo-inducing depths to the river with no walls or fences to contain the viewer. Towering cliffs, canyon walls and rock layers play an integral part in the patterning and shapes for this canyon landscape.
